SUCCINCT SUMMARY
----------------
A powerful but simple Rashi method is the CITATION or CROSS-
REFERENCING of an OTHER VERSE for the purpose of clarifying
a procedure. We call this the Rashi
METHOD of OTHER VERSES and the Rashi
submethod of CITATION.

EXAMPLE Lv09-15b-NATION SIN OFFERING
------------------------------------
The Biblical text at Lv09-15b states
----------------------------------------
And he[Aaron] brought near the nation offering
and he took the goat sin offering of the nation
and he slaughtered it and performed sin procedures
LIKE HE DID ON THE FIRST
----------------------------------------

Rashi commenting on the phrase LIKE HE DID ON THE FIRST
-----------------------------------------------------------
LIKE HE DID ON THE FIRST sin offering: That is the
- NATION sin offering had the same procedures as the
- PRIEST sin offering
mentioned in Lv09-08:11
-----------------------------------------------------------

LIST270a presents many examples of OTHER VERSES used
to clarify existing verses.

We now give an example of the OTHER VERSE method used to provide
further details. Lv10-20 is Moses response to Aarons refutation
of a rebuke by Moses. Lv10-20 states
------------------------------------------
And [when] Moses heard [this refutation]
it was good in his eyes
-----------------------------------------

Rashi, adds further details to this verse
---------------------------------------------
Moses in general never was embarassed to admit
he was wrong. [Although Rashi does not cite other
verses there are several biblical verses such
as Nu09-08 where Moses readily acknowledges that
he did not know the answer to a question -- in
Nu09-08 Moses acknowledges he does not know the
law for people who missed the opportunityo offer
a Pascal lamb in its proper time because of ritual
impurity]

COMMENTS
*1 The preceding chapter and paragraphs speak about the
requirement to observe the law

*2 The actual verse Lv09-15 states
-------------------------------------------
Make the nation sin offering LIKE THE FIRST
-------------------------------------------

By referring to Lv09-08 we learn that the phrase
LIKE THE FIRST means LIKE THE FIRST SIN OFFERING --
THE ONE OFFERED FOR THE PRIEST (Since there were
2 sin offerings--one for the PRIEST and one for
the NATION)

*3 Here is a more complete story
------------------------------------------------------
- Dt05-12b states Observe Sabbath AS GOD COMMANDED YOU
- Ex16-23 states THIS IS WHAT GOD HAD SAID:Dont cook
on Sabbath
------------------------------------------------------
So both verses seem to be referring to something else

An investigation shows that Ex12, Ex16-23 and Ex15-25:26
are the only times that the Jews received commandments
prior to the decalogue. But Ex12 specifically refers to
Passover commandments. Thus it seems reasonable that
the cryptic reference AS GOD COMMANDED YOU in Dt05-12b
is CITING Ex15-25:26 where God gave GENERAL COMMANDMENTS
A similar argument would support the conjecture that
- Dt05-16a HONOR YOUR PARENTS AS GOD COMMANDED YOU
cites Ex15-25:26
