*1 Radack translates PLACE as GOD. But a closer
examination of the texts shows that PLACE
means the HOLY PLACE, THE TEMPLE (Where of course
one frequently prays). See the the other footnotes
*2 The translation of PLACE as the HOLY TEMPLE makes
sense and fits in here.
*3 The interpretation here of PLACE as meaning HOLY PLACE
vs ORDINARY PLACE is because of the repeated word
PLACE. REPETITION encourages rare interpretations.
See http://www.Rashiyomi.com/gn47-02a.htm Note that
Jacob had passed by the mountain where Isaac his
father was Akaydahed---consequently this place was
HOLY.
*4 Rashi states HE PRAYED THERE. We do not differ from
Rashi however we point out that BECAUSE the verse
emphasizes that Abraham came to the HOLY Schem,
there is an emphasis on the HOLY war faught there
to avenge the rape of Dinah--it then makes sense
(as an AFTERTHOUGHT) that he prayed there. The
main emphasis is that Abraham stopped in Schem
because he prophetically new of the HOLY WAR
that would take place there.

*10 Radack seems to be an "orphan" among Rishonim. Yeshiva
students get excited about other Rishonim--a sharp
Rambam, an innovative Tosafoth, a clear RAN--but who
even cares about the Radack.
This is wrong. An affectionate play on his name states
--------------------------------------------------
All need the owner of WHEAT(Radacks last name was WHEAT)
--------------------------------------------------
We owe to Radack the observation that the Midrashic
identification of PLACE and HOLINESS was not a
homiletic accident but rather one of the SIMPLE
MEANINGS of the text. The citation in Esther comes
directly from him
It is ironic that without this Radack Rashi and all
the Talmudic sages appear to be making homilys and
wild-out Midrashim. It is the Radack who exposes
these midrashim as the simple meaning of the text.
