VERY BRIEF SUMMARY ------------------ One of Rashis 6 main goals is to explain the meaning of words the same way a dictionary does. Rashi explains word meanings thru a variety of vehicles as shown below EXAMPLE 1 --------- The word BAD means FLAX. Rashi infers this by comparing several verses speaking about specific priestly garments which we are told are made of PISTIM, BAD, SHAYSH. Hence we infer that these 3 words all mean the same thing EXAMPLE 2 --------- BAD has a unifying meaning of something ISOLATED Hence it can refer to FABRICATIONS, FLAX (Which grows isolated), BOUGHS of a tree or items that look like BOUGHS (limbs and boards) EXAMPLE 3 --------- TZLAH has a unifying meaning of SIDE. Hence it can refer to LIMPING on ones side or to WALL BOARDS (Which are placed on the side). It never means RIB!*10 | ||
