VERY BRIEF SUMMARY
------------------
One of Rashis 6 main goals is to give the
meanings of words the same way the dictionary
does. Rashi sometimes traces SPECIAL WORDS
that occur several dozen times in the Torah--
Rashi shows a unifying thread and commonality of
meaning.

The word LAYMOR is the infinitive of the word
TO SAY--so the simple translation of LAYMOR
means TO BE SAID. In the lists below we will
explore 4 manifestations of verses where TO BE
SAID occurs.

EXAMPLE 1: Lv10-16c TO BE SAID=REQUEST RESPONSE
-----------------------------------------------
TEXT: Moses got angry TO BE SAID
RASHI: Moses demanded an ANSWER to what
angered him (Hence the verse says TO BE SAID)

EXAMPLE 2: Dt15-11b TO BE SAID=Spread the word
----------------------------------------------
TEXT: Therefore I command charity laws TO BE SAID
RASHI: One should spread the word about the
importance of charity laws and the reward for
following them

EXAMPLE 3: Nu26-03b TO BE SAID=Transmit
---------------------------------------
TEXT: God spoke to Moses/Elazar TO BE SAID
RASHI: The commandment should be transmitted
to Jews

EXAMPLE 4: Nu12-13b TO BE SAID--
``````````Moses demands response
--------------------------------
TEXT: Moses prayed to God, for his
````sister TO BE SAID
RASHI: Moses, as it were, demanded
`````` from God an answer
LIST005c
In the verses below the word LAYMOR, to be said,
indicates some type of transmission *10
VERSE INCIDENT WHO SHOULD TRANSMIT WHAT
Dt01-09a Appoint Judges Moses ordered to tell Jews*1
Dt05-05a Decalogue Moses transmitted 10 commands*1
Ex35-04a Temple God told me to Tell you*1
Nu26-03b Census People should be told about it*1
Lv01-01f Sacrifices Laws are for sake of people*1
Lv11-01b Kosher laws Moses/Aaron to Elazar to Jews*2
COMMENTS
*1 In all these verses there is an emphasis that
the laws were specifically given FOR THE SAKE
of the JEWS.
For example God did NOT just tell
Moses to make Him a Temple but rather God told
Moses to TELL THE JEWS that they were privileged
to make a Temple so that God would dwell in
THEIR MIDST (Ex25-01:08).  In other words
their is an emphasis that the Law was given
to Moses FOR THE SAKE OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE
Similarly the CENSUS was not a formality but
rather done to show Gods endearment to the
Jewish people (and therefore He constantly
counted them)
*2 What a Beautiful Rashi. The Biblical text states
- God spoke to MOSES/AARON to be said TO THEM.
- Speak to the JEWS
Note the 3 units invovled in the transmission
- MOSES/AARON
- THEM (Elazar and ITHAMAR the 2 people in
the immediately preceding chapter)
- JEWS
Hence the Rashi
- God TRANSMITTED the laws to Moses/Aaron
- Moses and Aaron TRANSMITTED the laws to ELAZAR
- ELAZAR/ITHAMAR trasmitted the laws to the Jews
(A further nuance in Rashi revolves around
the repeated word TO (TO Moses and TO Aaron)
which implies that God spoke to Moses who
in turn spoke to Aaron (This nuance will
be covered at a later date))
LONGER FOOTNOTES
*10 The difference between LIST005c and LIST005b
is as follows:
- LIST005b gives examples where the goal is
to have the word SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE
COMMUNITY
- LIST005c gives examples where the goal
is to TRANSMIT information to SPECIFIC
INDIVIDUALS (But not necessarily to
spread the word everywhere)
