VERY BRIEF SUMMARY
------------------
One of Rashis 6 main goals is the explanation of words
the same way the dictionary explains words. Rashi had
a variety of techniques to explain word meanings. In
this issue we review 4 such techniques

EXAMPLE 1a: Lv13-30b Meaning by Alignment
---------------------------------------------------
Lv13 has half a dozen paragraphs dealing with
leprosy.

In many of these paragraphs the Hebrew word
for leprosy is TzARAATH. But in the paragraph
dealing with leprosy of the hair and beard
(leprosy on skin that grows hair) the Hebrew
word used is NETHEK. Using this alignment
of TzARAATH and NETHEK we conclude that TzARAATH
and NETHEK both refer to leprous spots depending
on what part of the body the leprosy is growing

EXAMPLE 1b: Lv13-18b Meaning by Alignment
------------------------------------------
Two chapters in Lv13 deal with Leprous scabs.
One chapter deals with BURNS and one with WOUNDS
Aligning the two chapters we find the following
-- leprosy in...a wound that has HEALED
-- leprosy in...the LIFE of the burn
Thus the Torah is speaking about something that
can be called both ALIVE and HEALED. This obviously
refers to the SCAB...the LIVE tissue that develops
when the wound or cut is HEALING

EXAMPLE 1c: Lv13-30a Lv13-03a Meaning by Alignment
---------------------------------------------------
Lv13 has half a dozen paragraphs dealing with
leprosy.

In several of these paragraphs we have the phrase
--- THE HAIR turns WHITE
However in one paragraph we have instead the phrase
--- THE HAIR in THE LEPROUS SPOT IS BLONDE
From this alignment of the lower capped words
(..turns white... vs ...is blonde....)
we derive the metaphoric meaning
of TURN (Similar to English): To TURN white means
-- the hair originally was some other color(eg black)
-- but it presently is white
We summarize this by saying THE HAIR TURNED WHITE.
Since the metaphor exists in English also this is
probably something obvious

EXAMPLE 2: Lv13-19a New Idiomatic Meanings
-------------------------------------------
Lv13-19 speaks about a REDDISH-WHITE leprosy spot.
Although RED and WHITE have known meanings the
phrase REDDISH-WHITE is a new coined term--it refers
to a PINKISH color (WHITE with streaks of Red).

EXAMPLE 3: Lv13-18a 2 Letter Theory
-----------------------------------
The word ShCh means a PIT|DEPRESSION. Rashi had a
principle that a TERMINAL NUN on a word can mean
INTENSITY It follows that ShChN could refer to an
INTENSE DEPRESSION or an INTENSE PIT---which, in
turn, could refer to a blow that leaves (to
use an English metaphor) a DEEP ABCESS. Hence
SCHIN refers to a CUT or WOUND

EXAMPLE 4: Lv12-04a SPECIAL METAPHOR CLASSES
--------------------------------------------
Words of MOTION|CESSATION can refer metaphorically
to ENERGY LEVELS OF PARTICIPATION. For example
- to WALK with a cause=To participate;
- to STAND against something=To strengthen it
- to SIT firm = to oppose change
