SUCCINCT SUMMARY ---------------- One of Rashis 5 main goals is to explain cross references that occur in OTHER VERSES. The METHOD of other verses employs a variety of vehicles to accomplish its goals. REFERENCES ---------- For a good readable account of this method see the new workbook series (downloadable as pdf) at http://www.Rashiyomi.com/wbook-01.pdf http://www.Rashiyomi.com/wbook-02.pdf EXAMPLE 1-2 Confirmation or further details from OTHER VERSES ------------------------------------------------------------- Ex06-05b and Ex06-06c - Gods promise to redeem the Jews and save them with great wealth - are confirmed by Gn15-14 where God promises this to Abraham. EXAMPLE 3-8 CITATION -------------------- Ex08-11b and Ex08-15b which speak about Pharoh NOT LISTENING AS GOD SAID is a citation of Ex07-04 where God said He would harden Pharoh-s heart. Similarly Ex12-25b and Ex13-11b which speak about BRINGING JEWS TO THE PROMISED LAND AS GOD SAID is a citation of Ex07-04 where God promises to bring Jews to the promised land. Similarly Ex14-12a the Jews complaint that WE SAID WE PREFERRED TO STAY IN EGYPT cross references Ex05-21 where the Jews attack Moses for asking for their freedom. Similarly Dt15-06a where God promises to BLESSS THE JEWS IF THEY LISTEN TO THE COMMANDMENTS AS HE PROMISED cross references a citation from Dt28-03 where He so promised. EXAMPLE - CONFIRMATION / FURTHER DETAILS ---------------------------------------- Ex06-20a which mentions that AMRAM the grandsom of Levi married his aunt cross references Nu26-59 where we are told that Amram-s wife, Yocheved, was in fact Levi-s daughter EXAMPLE - MULTIPLE PROOFS ------------------------- In Ex06-04b God criticizes Moses for wanting IMMEDIATE fulfillment of prophecy. God points out that the Patriarchs did not demand IMMEDIATE fulfillment. This does not refer to ONE OTHER VERSE but rather Gods case is strengthened by MULTIPLE other verses---since the fact that EACH of the patriarchs behaved this way makes Gods criticism look stronger. Hence this is an example of MULTIPLE PROOFS FROM OTHER VERSES | ||

List of verses showing Patriarchs no-ask immediate fulfillment*1 | |||
PERSON | VERSE | Text of verse--promise of Redemption | |
Abraham | Gn17-08 | Abraham is promised Israel/redeem EVENTUALLY | |
Isaac | Gn26-03 | Isaac is promised Israel/redeem EVENTUALLY | |
Jacob | Gn35-12 | Jacob is promised Israel/redeem EVENTUALLY | |
---- | ------- | -------------------------------------------- | |
Moses | Ex05-23 | Moses complains on lack of IMMEDIATE redemption*1 | |
|
|||
*1 This list contrasts the behavior of the Patriarchs vs Moses - Both Moses and the Patriarchs were promised Israel and redemption - None of the Patriarchs ever saw the redemption. Each realized that the promise was EVENTUAL - But Moses complained at the first sight of something wrong Hence we see that Moses was not on the prophecy level of the patriarchs. For further details see *10 Thus this list gives MULTIPLE VERSE support for the Rashi on Ex06-04b | |||

*10 For a broader discussion of this read my essay ---------------------------------------- The Akaydah - What really happened ---------------------------------------- which contains many more sources. This reference may be accessed at ------------------------------------ http://www.Rashiyomi.com/akaydah.htm ------------------------------------ I take note that some people disagree and find this view insulting to Moses---but I bring strong proofs to show its veracity. |
