List of 3 verse pairs With double names for Esauvs 3 wives*10
VERSE Wife Name Daughter Of Nationality
Gn36-02a Adah Daughter of Aylon the Hitite
Gn26-34 Basmath Daughter of Aylon the Hitite
Differs *1 *2 *2 *2
------ ------- --------------- -------- ---------
Gn36-03a Basmath Daughter of Ishmael
Gn28-09 Machlath Daughter of Ishmael
Differs *4 *2 *2
------ ------- --------------- -------- ---------
Gn36-02b Ahalivamah Illegitimate Daughter of Anah the Hitite
Gn26-34 Yehudith Daughter of Beyri The Hitite
Differs *5 *3 *3 *2
COMMENTS
*1 BASMATH means PERFUME. This suggests that
she was involved in perfuming. Perhaps
- she always perfumed herself
- she offered perfume sacrifices to idolatry (Rashi)

*2 These phrases are the same showing that the two names refer
to the same person

*4 MACHLATH means ATONEMENT. But Gn26-33 states
------------------------------------------------
Esauv saw that his father did not like his
other wives so he married an Arab wife
------------------------------------------------

Perhaps then MACHLATH means that Esauv supplicated
for ATONEMENT for his former wives. (Rashi actually
suggests that he actually received atonement)

*3 This identity of Ahalivamah and Yehudith is less clear than the
identity of the other two wives. Perhaps we can justify the
assertion by appeal to analogy.

The word YEHUDITH means JEWISH. Perhaps then Esauv called his
wife JEWISH to fool his father into thinking that she was
interested in his religion.

LONGER FOOTNOTES

*10 The alignment of the 3 lists together gives more of a punch
to the three Rashis since we see parallel issues in them.
