GOALS
=====
This module studies the ALIGNMENT method in Rashi. In this
method 2 different verses are found to be ALMOST the same.
The verses are lined up and the minor differences between
them function as footnotes illuminating the text.

TODAYS UNIT
===========
In todays unit we align 2 sets of verses on
the number of sacrifices brought for 2 holidays

REFERENCE:
=========
Todays unit comes from the following posting

Alignment of 4 verses on Sacrifice Blemishes

EXAMPLE 56: Nu28-24a #Sacrifices:Vary on Succoth; Same on Passvr

BACKGROUND
----------
Nu28 describes the sacrifices brought on the Jewish holidays.
We can compare the numbers of animals brought for sacrifices
on Passover and Succoth

THE TEXT
--------
On Passover it says DO SIMILARLY EACH OF THE 7 DAYS.
By contrast on Succoth it says: DO SO MUCH ON THIS DAY,
DO SO MUCH ON THIS DAY, etc

THE RASHI
----------
Rashi is Simple. He simply points out that the number
of sacrifices is CONSTANT on PASSOVER but VARYING
ON SUCOTH.

Here is the LIST of 2 holidays
VERSEHOLIDAYPHRASE1PHRASE2
Nu28-24PassoverBring similar numberseach of the 7 days
Nu29-17SuccothBring 12 ox, 2 rams, 14 sheepon the 2nd day
Nu29-20SuccothBring 11 ox, 2 rams, 14 sheepon the 3rd day
Nu29-23SuccothBring 10 ox, 2 rams, 14 sheepon the 4th day

COMMENTS

*1 --Passover sacrifices are discussed in Nu28-16:25
   --Succoth sacrifices are discussed in Nu28-17:34

*2 --Note how the Passover sacrifices are the same
   --While the Succoth sacrifices differ in number each day
   An earlier verse, Nu28-19 lists the actual numbers for
   PASSOVER: 2 ox, 1 Ram, 7 sheep. (Rabbi Samson Raphael
   Hirsch discusses the symbolic meaning of these numbers)

*3 --The same Passover sacrifice is brought on EACH OF THE 7 DAYS
     The numbers are attributes of the Holiday
   --By contrast the Succoth sacrifices differ by number each day
     The numbers are attributes of the day

   Nu29-26, Nu29-29, Nu29-32 continue the above arithmetic
   progression for Succoth days 5,6,7. We have left them
   out since the above cited verses ws sufficient for our
   goals of explaining the Rashi.
