Although there are 40 Rashis there are 4 simple rules. RULE: The Hebrew word "ALL"(KL)indicates that there are no exceptions and that what is being discussed should take place in ALL circumstance---EVEN those you wouldn't ordinarily think of.There are 4 methods by which the interpretation of ALL is implemented. ALL can indicate (A) cases you wouldn't ordinarily think of EXAMPLE:Gn06-12a "ALL Flesh corrupted" RASHI: EVEN Animals corrupted (B) it can indicate that there are no exceptions or (C) it can refer even to mixtures or (D) it can emphasize not to exclude "obvious exceptions" We start by studying verses where "ALL" indicates EVEN cases not ordinarily included #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# (C) Dr Hendel, 2000 *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# EXAMPLE 6: Gn07-14a ------------------- The verses are talking about how Noach was commanded and brought Animals to the ark >Gn07-14a "...and ALL winged birds" >RASHI: "ALL" winged birds---EVEN grasshoppers The next two examples are so similar that we present them as exercises and ask you to figure out what the ALL includes (HINT: You may have to use an Encyclopedia) EXAMPLE 7: Lv11-42b ------------------- The verses are talking about which animals are Kosher >Lv11-42b "ANYTHING walking on its belly" >RASHI: EVEN the ___________________________(fill in) EXAMPLE 8: Lv11-42c ------------------- The verses are talking about which animals are Kosher >Lv11-42c "ANYTHING walking on its paws" >RASHI: EVEN the__________________________________(Fill in) ANSWERS POSTED TOMORROW or THURSDAY #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# (C) Dr Hendel, 2000 *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*
