In this series we review the Rashis on the word ALL.
Although there are 40 Rashis there are 4 simple rules.

RULE: The Hebrew word "ALL"(KL)indicates that there are no
exceptions and that what is being discussed should take place
in ALL circumstances---EVEN those you wouldn't ordinarily think
of.There are 4 methods by which the interpretation of ALL is
implemented.

ALL can indicate

(A) cases you wouldn't ordinarily think of
    --------------------------------------
EXAMPLE:Gn06-12a "ALL Flesh corrupted"
        RASHI: EVEN Animals corrupted

(B) it can indicate that there are no exceptions
    -----------------------------------------------
EXAMPLE:By the 10 commandments it describes how the
Jewish people all witnessed the miracles

Ex19-11c "The WHOLE nation saw the thunders"
RASHI: The "WHOLE" nation--there were no exceptions

(C) it can refer to the parts of a whole

(D) it can emphasize not to exclude "obvious exceptions"

In this issue we begin the Rashis where
        >"WHOLE" means "NO EXCEPTIONS" *1

EXAMPLE 14: Ex19-11c
--------------------
By the 10 commandments it relates how the Jews all saw the
miracles. It says

>EX19-11c "The WHOLE nation saw the thunders"
>RASHI: "The WHOLE nation"--there were no BLIND among them

EXAMPLE 15: Ex32-26b
--------------------
After the sin of the Golden calf Moses asked 'who had not
worshipped?'--he used those who had not worshipped to
execute those who worshipped idols. Thus we have that
Moses asked 'Who belongs to God? come to me'--and the text
says

>Ex32-26b "And ALL the Levites came"
>RASHI: "ALL"--no even one of the Levites sinned

EXAMPLE 16: Gn19-04b
--------------------
Recall how wicked the cities of Sedom and Gmarrah were.
Two angels came to Lot disguised as Angels--the city
immediately gathered around them to rape them. The text
says

>Gn19-04b "The Sedomites surrounded the house
ALL the people from the outskirts"
>RASHI: "ALL the people"--every citizen of Sedom was there

NOTE: Notice how the phrase "from the outskirts" further
supports Rashi. Examples like this where there are several
supports for Rashi are quite common.

-------------------------NOTES----------------------------------
*1 I have decided to follow the practices in Libraries which
place all books with one topic on the same part of the
shelf; however they place BIG books separately. So too..
all the "easy" rashis which are simple and spontaneous
I am placing up front. The big Rashis which require more
lists and clarifications I will do at the end after we
   understand the basic concepts.
