Subject: Re: Women studying talmud

Debbie (Bais Medrash Volume 1 Number 89) makes an excellent point.

Reacting to a recent posting of mine (where I defended the view that women
are not obligated to learn Gemarrah because Gemarrah which literally means
Talmudic-halachic research requires an enormous amount of time to properly
analyze and compare cases and not all women have such time
available)---Debbie suggested that I had proved that women are not
OBLIGATED or REQUIRED to learn Gemarrah.

But I have not proved that women are PROHIBITED or NOT ALLOWED to learn
Gemarrah.

Excellent point!! When I think it over...we have had many postings on this
subject but how many of them really deal with the issue of whether women
are NOT OBLIGATED vs PROHIBITED.

Does anyone care to review the already cited sources and see if it supports
Debbie's thesis or not.
