GOALS: ====== In this module we study how the Bible indicates Bullets. The Bible bullets items by repeating keywords in sentences TODAYS UNIT =========== We begin today with a simple example of a bulleted verse: Gn26-12 REFERENCE: ========= This material for this module comes from the following postings. http://www.Rashiyomi.com/gn26-12a.htm http://www.Rashiyomi.com/h12n3.htm |

EXAMPLE 1: Gn26-12a BULLET on LAND: It was an inferior land EXAMPLE 2: Gn26-12b BULLET on YEAR: It was a famine year EXAMPLE 3: Gn26-12c 2 BULLETS: YEAR and LAND were bad BACKGROUND ---------- When you type in English you can use a variety of TYPING EFFECTS such as - indentation - paragraphing - bold, italics, underline - bullets - tables These techniques were not DIRECTLY available to the Biblical Author. However they were used in the Bible.One of Rashis 6 main tasks was to indicate how the Bible implemented TYPING EFFECTS. THE TEXT-Gn26-12 ---------------- And Isaac sowed and produced in - THAT land - THAT year 100 fold. THE RULE --------- The Bible indicates BULLETS by using REPEATING KEYWORDS. The effect of these BULLETS is to place emphasis on EACH item. The examples will clarify THE RASHI --------- The verse places an emphasis on BOTH the LAND and the YEAR. This indicates that there were 2 aspects to the miracle -- it was a bad year for growth(eg a famine year) but Isaac sowed 100 fold -- it was a bad land for growth(eg other lands like Israel had more fertile land), but nevertheless Isaac sowed 100 fold THE LIST -------- The verse, Gn26-12a with its bulleted structure is depicted below For clarity the verse is repeated a second time with an asterisk * to show how it would look in modern notation
PHRASE1 | PHRASE2 | REPEATED KEYWORD | ITEM EMPHASIZED |
And Isaac | |||
SOWED | in THAT | LAND*1 | |
& PRODUCED | in THAT | YEAR*1

COMMENTS | |||
*1 The repeated keyword [THAT] can be interpreted as a BULLET. Without the bullet the focus of the sentence would be that Isaac produced 100 fold. However the bullets draw our attentions to 2 other aspects of the miracle - the 100 fold production happened in THAT YEAR So it was a bad year--eg a famine year - the 100 fold production happened in THAT LAND So it was a bad land--eg Israel produces better produce |
