VERSE: Dt27-08a

RULE: The unifying meaning of the Hebrew root B-Ay-R is
STRINGS (BAAH) of LIGHT (OR). B-Ay-R can consequently
refer to (a) a well (if you peer into a well you see
strings of light bouncing off the water) (b) footnotes
(footnotes on a page look like light streaks on water).

EXAMPLES
--------
(1) Dt27-08 & You will write on the stones of the
    Torah--good footnotes

(2) Dt01-05 In the transjordan Moses began to FOOTNOTE
    the Torah

NOTES
-----
*1 To be fair Rashi simply says that "The Torah was translated
into 70 languages". Thus the above explanations are really more
my own (and perhaps conjectural). The traditional English
translation of B-Ay-R is TRANSLATE.

*2 Perhaps my translation can be strengthened by a frequency
tabulation of methods of COMMUNICATION by God. When the
Bible wishes to say "AND GOD SAID SUCH AND SUCH" what verbs
will it use to indicate the speech. Here are the answers

(2a-b) The following forms of communication happen several
100 times (2a) SPEAK to the JEWS (2b) CITE to the Jews

(2c-f) The Following forms of communication happen a
few dozen times (2c) TELL the Jews (2d) RELATE A STORY to
your children (2e) PLACE before the Jews (2f) WRITE these words

(2g) The following only occurs 3 times
(2g) FOOTNOTE to the JEWS (B-AY-R)

Thus we see that B-AY-R is a special form.

*3 For those who still prefer Rashis explanation (Moses translated
the Torah into 70 languages) I have no further lists to back
Rashi up.
