One of Rashis 5 main goals is to explain the MEANING of
SPECIAL WORDS such as IF, THEN, BECAUSE, ALSO.

EXAMPLE
-------
Rashi explains that the phrase AND-NOW indicates progressive
contrast. In other words you use the phrase AND NOW when
- there was some type of evil
- it has ALREADY begun changing
- AND NOW we continue the change
In other words AND NOW continues the change already begun
either a little bit or in a more dynamic development*1

EXAMPLE Dt10-12a

Dt10-10 Jews sin in Golden calf--Moses prays for forgiveness
Dt10-11 God forgives and allows them to go to Israel
Dt10-12 AND NOW all that is required is to revere God

EXAMPLE Ex19-05a

- The Jews were in Egypt
- God took them out of Egypt
- AND NOW if Jews harken to God, they will be TREASURED
