The following 9 unit series is devoted to the Rashis on the Hebrew
word
        >GAM (Also)
A person completing this series will have proficiency in the 3
methods that the word
        >ALSO
is understood. First we introduce the 3 methods of interpreting
ALSO and then we present all Rashis on the subject. In previous
issues we have seen that

THEME/METHOD 1: ALSO can mean AN EXTRA RECIPIENT
=================================================
EXAMPLE: (Gn20-5a) Avimelech wanted to Marry Sarah, Abraham's wife
------- who claimed she was Abrahams sister. Avimelech tried to
married her and when God wanted to punish him Avimelech states
      >She(Sarah) ALSO said she was his sister
      >RASHI:
      >ALSO teaches that Sarahs maids said she was his sister(ALSO)

THEME 2: ALSO means a DERIVED PRODUCT
=====================================
EXAMPLE
--------(Dt23-19c) Prohibits a prostitute from bringing her payment
as an offering to the Temple. For example, if the prostitute
was paid with "wheat" (instead of money) then the prostitute
is prohibited from
        >bringing this for any vow
        >because these payments are ALSO loathesome to God
        >RASHI:
        >she cannot bring the wheat
        >she ALSO cannot bring WHEAT DERIVATIVES (like Flour)

In this issue we introduce the last of the 3 methods of interpreting
ALSO. The remaining issues will cover all rashis on GAM and classify
them by one of these 3 methods.

THEME 3: ALSO refers to a similar ANALOGOUS RELATIONSHIP
========================================================
EXAMPLE 5 Ex07-23a
---------
Ex07-23 says that at the plague of blood, that

        >Pharoh hardened his heart(didn't listen)
        >and didn't pay attention ALSO TO THIS

But at the 'stick turning into a snake' Ex07-13 only says

        >Pharoh hardened his heart(didn't listen)

Hence we have the
        >RASHI:(Ex07-23a)
        >Pharoh didn't pay attention to the plague of BLOOD
        >Pharoh ALSO didn't pay attention to the 'stick to snake'

In other words
        >AT BOTH the 'stick to snake' and at
        >Nile turning to Blood
Pharoh BOTH
        >hardened his heart and ALSO
        >didn't pay attention.
Thus the ALSO refers to an ANALOGOUS ACTIVITY
