VERSE: Gn01-01b

RULE: A phrase ending in "OF", like "FIRST OF" can acquire a new
meaning where it particularly applies, eg the "FIRST years
OF our marriage" (Cf Is43-18). In Is43-18 the verse literally
says "our first of" but is translated "our first years of marriage"
The use of the half phrase "OUR FIRST OFS" vs
the whole phrase "OUR FIRST years OF marriage" is a
poetic evocative technique which provides emphasis

EXAMPLES
--------

HEBREW MEANING NEW MEANING RELATION TO "OF" VERSE
    ====== ========    =============== ================== =========
(1) ACHRIT,"END OF" means WAGES, "END OF LABOR DAY" (Prv23-18)
(2) ROSH, "HEAD OF" means TOP, "HEAD OF OBJECT" (2S15-32)
(3) RISHON,"FIRST OF" means APRIL "FIRST OF MONTHS" (Ez29-17)
(4) RISHON,"FIRST OF" means BEGINNING "1st YEARS OF" (Is43-18)
(5) MOOL, "OPPOSITE" means PLACE "PLACE OPPOSITE OF"(1Sa17-30)
(6) RAYSHIT"FIRST OF" means CHOICEST "FIRST CHOICE OF" (Gn01-01)*1

NOTES
-----
*1 Hence (Rashi) Gn01-01 would be translated "For the sake of
the CHOICEST THINGS IN MAN" God created the spiritual (prophecy)
and physical worlds. But the emotional world had until now been
formless and void, an emotional darkness hovering over an
abysmal consciousness; but the pre-prophetic spirit of God
hovered over mans emotions. And God said 'Let there be the
lights of prophecy' and it was so."

*1b For a full justification of the above translation we point out
that the phrase WIND OF GOD or SPIRIT OF GOD **always** refers
to prophecy. For this reason we must interpret the rest of Gn01
as dealing with prophecy--thus "light" means the "lights of
prophecy". In particular Gn01 is not asserting that the PHYSICAL
world was created 6000 years ago; rather it is asserting that
the creation of prophecy happened 6000 years ago. This is
fully developed in my paper on Gn01 presented at the 3rd
international conference on Torah and Science. The rest of Gn01
is analyzed there (See posting Gn01-04a)

*1c An alternative interpretation of Gn01 is "In the beginning of
God creating the heaven and earth, the earth was formless and
void...and God said let there be light..." The technical
application of a Hebrew verb conjugaged in 3rd person past to a
phrase of the form "in the beginning of..." is justified by
the following list (provided by a Professor Niccacci.)

VERSE MEANING VERB CONJUGATION
