GOALS
=====
This module studies Rashis treatment of classical grammar.
In other words how did Rashi treat the rules you find in
modern LEARN-HEBREW textbooks

TODAYS UNIT
===========
As we close this grammar module I bring odds and ends
of the grammatical rules. We have already had units on
the MULTIPLE MEANINGS OF SPECIAL WORDS. For example the
Hebrew word AL has 5 meanings. Similarly we have seen
that the Hebrew word EL-- normally translated as TO --
can also mean ABOUT. Today we review all 5 meanings of
the word/prepositions TO. Please review the lists in the
references for further examples.

THE WORD to HAS 5 MEANINGS: To,On,With,In,From

EXAMPLE 102: Ex25-16a TO can mean IN
EXAMPLE 103: Gn49-29b TO can mean IN
EXAMPLE 104: Gn34-35c TO can mean ON
EXAMPLE 105: Lv18-18c TO can mean WITH
EXAMPLE 106: Ex06-09a TO can mean FROM

BACKGROUND
----------
The Hebrew preposition L, or the Hebrew word EL means TO.
Closer analysis of Biblical texts, conducted by both Rashi
and Radack, show 5 distinct meanings.

THE RASHIS
----------
The Hebrew word EL can mean
- TO
- IN
- ON / ABOUT
- WITH
- FROM / MORE

THE LIST
--------
The LIST below contains
- the 5 meanings of TO
- Biblical Verse Texts supporting these meanings
MEANING VERSE BIBLICAL TEXT WITH HEBREW TRANSLATED IN CAPS
TO Nu01-01 And God spoke TO (EL) Moses saying
WITH Gn49-29b Bury me WITH (EL) my fathers*1
IN Ex25-16a Place the Tablets IN (EL) in the Ark
ON Gn34-35c I will go down to the Grave ON my sons death*2
FROM Ex06-09a They did not accept FROM Moses (his words)*3
COMMENTS
*1 Another good example of EL meaning WITH would be Lv18-18c
   -----------------------------------
Dont take a woman WITH her sister
   -----------------------------------

*2 ON here means ON ACCOUNT OF. An example where EL means
physically ON is brought by RADACK in his book ROOTS:
   -----------------------------------------
1S17-49 He hit the Philistine ON his head
   -----------------------------------------
For other examples where EL means ABOUT see
   http://www.RashiYomi.Com/about-1.htm
   (Ex14-03b, Gn20-13c, Gn24-07d, Gn26-07a)

*3 Both Radack and Rashi are dubious whether TO can mean
its exact opposite FROM. For example Gn41-57 can
be translated that ALL PEOPLE CAME TO BUY from(EL)JOSEPH
or, it can translated by rearrangment (a possibility
meantioned by both Rashi and Radack):All People came TO
   (EL) Joseph to buy).

Similarly Ex06-09a can be translated as THEY DIDNT
   LISTEN TO (EL) MOSES

Similar alternative treatments apply to Ez15-29
   brought by Radack.
