GOALS
=====
This module studies Rashis treatment of classical grammar.
In other words how did Rashi treat the rules you find in
modern LEARN-HEBREW textbooks

TODAYS UNIT
===========
Rashi had a unique method of teaching Hebrew Grammar.
He used the method of NEAR MISSES. In the next few
days we present some examples and clarify this method

REFERENCE:

Todays unit comes from the following postings

RASHI TEACHES GRAMMAR BY NEAR MISSES

NOTATION: In todays posting: O<-->KAMATZ; A<-->PATACH

EXAMPLE 14: Gn46-26a 1st syllable accent=PAST;Last=PRESENT
EXAMPLE 15: Gn18-20b 1st syllable accent=PAST;Last=PRESENT
EXAMPLE 16: Gn15-17e 1st syllable accent=PAST;Last=PRESENT

BACKGROUND
----------
As is well known Hebrew Grammar rests on 3 letter roots. These
3 letter roots may be conjugated in various ways to obtain
various meanings. There are many books and many charts showing
these conjugations.

THE TEXT
--------
My favorite summary is the appendix to the IBN SHOSHAN
dictionary. Table 6 deals with 3 letter roots whose
middle letter is vav. BOTH the 3rd person PAST and PRESENT
are conjugated by using two KAMATZS under the non-vav root
letters but differ in the placement of accents.

THE RASHI
---------
By way of example consider the root Beth-Vav-Aleph (To Come)
- BO-oh (Accent on first syllable) means HE CAME (Past)
- bo-OH (Accent on last syllable) means HE IS COMING (Present)

THE LIST
--------
Rashi presents various examples of this grammatical rule As
indicated this is footnote 2 and 3 in the IBN SHOSHAN dictionary
