GOALS
=====
This module studies Rashis treatment of classical grammar.
In other words how did Rashi treat the rules you find in
modern LEARN-HEBREW textbooks

TODAYS UNIT
===========
One of the charming pleasantries of Rashi is learning
how the classical Biblical prefixes have multiple meanings
(Contrary to what we were taught in Grade school). Today
we present 4 Rashis where the prefix letter L means ON
rather than TO.

THE PREFIX LAMED CAN MEAN on VS to

EXAMPLE 21: Gn20-13c say ABOUT ME: I am his wife
EXAMPLE 22: Gn24-07d that God that promised ABOUT me
EXAMPLE 23: Gn26-07a the people asked ABOUT his wife
EXAMPLE 24: Ex14-03b pharoh will say ABOUT the Jews

BACKGROUND
----------
Every Hebrew school child learns how certain Hebrew letters
function as prefixes with meanings. Thus
- B means IN,
- K means LIKE,
- L means TO,
- M means FROM
The school mnemonic is BKLM.

THE TEXT
--------
But RADACK the Great Encyclopedic Grammarian points to 1Sam26-14
----------------------------
And Avner said: Who is it that Calls ON the King
----------------------------
Avner points out that L could not mean TO since David was
not CALLING TO THE KING but rather CALLING to Avner. Hence
concludes Radack we must translate L as meaning ON or ABOUT.

In passing a study of RADACK, BOOK OF ROOTS, shows that L
can mean SEVERAL things (TO, ON etc). Similarly all the BKLM
letters can mean several things.

THE RASHI
---------
We present 4 Rashis below where L means ON.
