Every language has a variety of means to indicate
emphasis. In modern English we could indicate emphasis
by using BOLD, ITALICS etc. In Hebrew one method of
indicating emphasis is by REPEATING WORDS.

EXAMPLE

Lv20-02b (in the original Hebrew) speaks about
EXECUTE EXECUTE (repeated word). The exact text is
THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND WILL EXECUTE EXECUTE.

This emphasis is further illuminated by Dt17-06:07
which explains that in a court conviction FIRST
the witnesses must execute the convicted and
afterwards (if he has not yet died) the PEOPLE
execute. Thus the emphasis in THE PEOPLE...WILL
EXECUTE EXECUTE indicates EXECUTE IN ANY EVENT...whether
by witnesses or by the people

A list of verses where a word is repeated. The repeated
words indicates emphasis and broadening of meaning...
....do it in any event.

The Talmud at Baba Metziah 32b gives about a dozen
examples of this phenomenon.

One of Rashis 6 methods in explaining Biblical exegesis
is to use the ALIGNMENT method. In the ALIGNMENT method
we align almost identical verses, word for word. The
minor differences in these verses illumines nuances

EXAMPLE

Dt18-10 speaks about offering SONS & DAUGHTERS to
the Molech idols. By contrast Lv20-02 speaks about
offering DESCENDANTS to the Molech idols. This
contrast suggests that ANY DESCENDANT (eg grandchildren
or illegitimate children) are covered. Hence the
words SONS & DAUGHTERS are interpreted broadly. This
broad interpretation is inferred from the alignment.

We align 3 verses dealing with the Molech idolatry
From the alignment we infer that Molech is punishable
for offering any DESCENDANT, not just SONS & DAUGHTERS

We align 2 verses about Molech: Dt17-06:07 and Lv20-02.
From the alignment we infer that the phrase PEOPLE OF THE LAND
means PEOPLE. Further details are provided below

Alignment of Lv20-03:05. As is seen in this list, the footnotes
and LIST306c the Bible clearly indicates 3 classes of sinners
and 3 classes of punishment

One of Rashis major techniques is to use Database
methods to find patterns in several laws.

EXAMPLE

There are a variety of laws that respect the
feelings of inanimate objects or treat inanimate
objects like people. For example
-- we shouldnt undress before other PEOPLE (modesty)
-- we shouldnt undress before Temple STONES

-- We should kill a PERSON who slept immorally
-- We should kill a ANIMAL who slept immorally

-- We should kill idolatrous PEOPLE
-- We should destroy idolatrous TREES

-- PEOPLE should obey Gods laws
-- STONES should obey Gods laws

In these cases we use techniques of exaggeraion
(Modest even before stones) to emphasize the
importance of the law

This list contains laws that apply to non-human objects
In each case the purpose of the law is emphasize the
importance of humans behaving similarly.

To appreciate the list simply substitute the word HUMAN
for the CAPPED words in the verse. Thus

becomes
-- DONT EXPOSE NUDITY TO HUMANS

In other words the prohibition of nudity exposure to
stones emphasizes the importance of humans behaving
similarly.

the same way a dictionary explains meaning.In explaining
meaning Rashi had a variety of vehicles such as context
and the meaning of the underlying root

EXAMPLE

A person who sleeps with his daughter-in-law has done
a TEVEL

Clearly FROM CONTEXT the word TEVEL must mean PERVERSION
(This is in fact Rashis 1st comment)


Rashis second comment focuses on the meaning of the root
The root of TEVEL is B-L-L, to MIX. Thus TEVEL would
be a MIXUP or MESS---the person, by sleeping with his
daughter-in-law makes a mess of his family relations.
