How did the grass know to observe the BY SPECIES
law?

They inferred it using a fortiori argument!

If trees which usually grow separately, each in
its own space, nevertheless had to be explicitly
ordered to grow by species, then how much more
so should grass which frequently grows mingled
be required to grow by species (Each grass species
should grow by itself)

Tetragrammaton and the Hebrew word Elohim)

Traditionally the Tetragrammaton is associated
with running the world by MERCY while the word
ELOHIM is associated with running the world by
JUSTICE

I would slightly modify these ideas as follows
- The word ELOHIM (which also means JUDGE)
refers to laws and personalities that ALREADY
exist (The establishment)

- The Tetragrammaton which comes from the root
TO EXIST (H-Y-H) refers to letting new
personalities come forward

Thus the nuances of Gn01-01 vs Gn02-04 are as
follows
- God sought to create the world/prophecy using
those people that already existed (The
establishment ELOHIM)

- But this did not work out--we always need
new people and new ideas to maintain the
world (TETRAGRAMMATON - GOD)

The symbolic interpretation of this equality
of heaven and earth is intriguing*11

*11 The following philosophic insight was taught
to me by the Rav--Rabbi Joseph Baer Soloveitchick

Judaism places equal importance on the SPIRITUAL
(heaven) and PHYSICAL (earth). As a simple
example when we get up in the morning
- we say the ASHER YAZAR blessing when we go to
the bathroom

- we say the ELOHAI NESHAMA blessing when we
become aware of the restoration of our soul

Thus we thank God equally for our physical
(bathroom) and spiritual (awakening)

Gn01-12 deals with what actually happened

*2 Both verses deal with creation of trees

*3 God ordered TREES OF FRUIT while what was actually
made was TREES THAT MAKE FRUIT. The phrarse TREES
OF FRUIT denotes something INTRINSIC while TREES
THAT MAKE FRUIT is more neutral

The nuances implicit in these different phrases
seem to be that
- TREES OF FRUIT refer to TREES that have the
attribute of the fruit (eg their bark tastes
like the fruit) while

- TREES THAT MAKE FRUIT refer to trees and fruit
that may differ and have nothing in common*10

*10 Rashi elaborates further. If the trees were ordered
- that  their fruit should taste like them but
- the trees disobeyed (fruit did not taste like them)
then we can view this as a rebellion against a Divine
command. Therefore the punishment on the plant world
mentioned in Gn03-17 -- the earth is cursed ---
would be a punishment for this sin.

However, my real purpose here was simply to alert
the reader to the existence of the alignment and
the fact that this alignment points to different
nuances.

To fully understand what really happened we would
have to use the symbolic methods developed in
http://www.RashiYomi.com/h19n11.htm. Very roughly

- Plants symbolize people (eg Dt20-19)
- Plants that taste like their fruit would
symbolically refer to a continuance of traditions
between parents (Trees) and children (Fruit)
- Plants that differ from fruit refer to severance
of ties between the generations

Thus the commands here are that people should
integrate their individuality with their heritage

*3 - SEEDS SEED indicates seeds that are scattered thru wind
- SEEDS IN BODY OF FRUIT indicate seeds that have to
be planted

The alignment seems to indicate or hint that the
SEEDS of all of creation were made on the 1st day--each
subsequent day developed and fixed the items made
on the first day *12
