SUCCINCT SUMMARY ---------------- One of Rashis 5 primary goals is to explain meaning the same way the dictionary explains meaning. Rashi had a variety of vehicles to explain meaning. In todays posting we present the 16 meanings of the Hebrew root Ayin-Resh-Beth. We suggest that the UNIFIED THEME is MIXING. Hence this root can refer to -- BAD MIXING--as in CONFUSION -- NEUTRAL MIXING--as in the give and take of COMMERCE/LOANS -- GOOD MIXING--thus PLEASANT people are nice to mix with Each of these 3 broad categories (BAD, NEUTRAL, GOOD) has many meanings. For example the CONFUSION concept is seen in EVENING, WILDERNESS, or CLOUDY-SKIES The PLEASANT concept is seen in PLEASANT, SWEET and POLITICIANS (People whose function is to mingle with the masses and find out needs) The NEUTRAL MIXING concept is seen in LOCUSTS (They travel in a mixed up manner), REEDS(grow mixed and wild), woof, commerce, loans,(the give or take of the business world resembles mixing and intertwining), 3rd world minorities (mixtures of other people) Still other meanings derive from these: Thus ARABS are WILDNERNESS people; NOON is BETWEEN THE 2 EVES (that is between eve and dawn).
