SUCCINCT SUMMARY
----------------
The FORMATTING rule seeks to explain Rashis based on
the FORMATTING of the Biblical text. FORMATTING techniques
in modern writing include use of bold, italics, underline,
bullets, paragraph indentation and similar items. The Bible
indicated FORMATTING using its own techniques: For example
- the Bible indicates bold, italics, underline thru REPETITION
- the Bible indicates bulleting, thru REPEATING KEYWORDS
When the Bible, or modern literature, uses either
BOLD, UNDERLINE, ITALICS or REPETITION, it is thereby
indicating an UNSPECIFIED EMPHASIS. Such EMPHASIS typically
manifests itself in either RESTRICTIVE or BROAD interpretation.
The Bible can also indicate FORMATTING thru meaning without
any formal structure.

REFERENCE: This approach to Biblical repetition may
be found in my article BIBLICAL FORMATTING at
http://www.RashiYomi.com/biblicalformatting.pdf

Example 1: Ex15-06a
-------------------
Ex15-06 speaking about Gods redemption of the Jews
from Egypt states
------------------------------------------------
Your RIGHT HAND, GOD, is splendored in might
Your RIGHT HAND, smashes the enemy
-------------------------------------------------

Rashi commenting on the REPEATED PHRASE, RIGHT HAND states
--------------------------------------------------
When saving people God always uses the RIGHT hand
There is no left hand [that is, there are no slipups]
--------------------------------------------------

Here the repeated term RIGHT HAND is interpreted
restrictively -- God ONLY has a right hand

Example 2: Ex15-26a
-------------------
Ex15-26a describing God's blessing if the Jews
listen to God states
-------------------------------------
If you LISTEN LISTEN to God ....then....
-------------------------------------

Rashi commenting on the repeated LISTEN LISTEN
states
-----------------------------------------
LISTEN LISTEN is interpreted restrictively--
not any LISTENING but OBEDIANCE and ACCEPTANCE
-----------------------------------------

Example 3: Ex16-22a
-------------------
Ex16-22a discussing the blessing of the manna states
---------------------------------------------------
On Friday...there was DOUBLE bread, TWO omers per person
---------------------------------------------------

Rashi commenting on the repeated DOUBLE-TWO states
--------------------------------------------------
It was QUANTITATIVELY and QUALITATIVELY double---
double in amount and double in quality (The manna
had a different taste on Friday)
--------------------------------------------------

Here Rashi interprets the REPETITION BROADLY.

Example 4: Ex16-25a
-------------------
Ex16-25a describing the blessing that the manna did not descend
on the Sabbath states
-----------------------------------------------------
And Moses states eat the mannar TODAY, for it is Sabbath
TODAY to God, TODAY you will not find it in the field
-----------------------------------------------------

Rashi interprets the repeated TODAY both restrictively
and broadly
-----------------------------------------------
- No manna descended today but you have enough food
to eat the whole day--that is the MANNA did not
DESCEND TODAY but you have enough to eat
- No manna descended today but tomorrow manna descent
will resume--that is TODAY the MANNA did not
descend but TOMORROW it will
-----------------------------------------------

Example 5: Ex22-05e
-------------------
Ex22-05e discussing the payment for
burning bushes states
-----------------------------------
When a fire goes out and consumes...
the fire ignighter PAYS PAYS for that
consumed
-----------------------------------

Rashi interprets the PAYS PAYS
broadly
------------------------------------
He is responsible for payment whether
the fire started on his property or
his neighbors property
------------------------------------

LIST150b below summarizes the above examples
and presents other examples where verses are
interpreted broadly because of a REPETITION.
