This module studies the meaning of the word HOLY (KDSH)
The basic meaning of KDSH is that it refers to a FORMAL
ATMOSPHERE such as the one at BANQUETS or INAUGORATIONS.

TODAYS UNIT
===========
Today we examine other nuances of HOLY. HOLY
can refer to SEPARATIONS FROM PHYSICALITY;
the type of behavior & moderation one expects at a
BANQUET or formal affair.

KADESH means FORMAL

BACKGROUND
----------
The Hebrew root K-D-Sh is enigmatic. It is usually translated
as HOLY. But this translation, while true, is inadequate.

THE TEXT
--------
To show the enigma consider the following 4 uses of HOLY
--------------------------------------------------------
- SANCTIFY the Sabbath;
- be a HOLY nation
- there will be no PROSTITUTES among you
- dont sow mixed seeds lest the land be PROHIBITED
--------------------------------------------------------

THE RASHI
---------
What is the common denominator to the CAPPED words.
I think the best way to explain Rashi is to translate
-------------------------------------------------------
HOLY means any PREPARED,FORMAL AFFAIR
-------------------------------------------------------
Hence HOLYNESS can refer to a FORMAL atmosphere such as
we find at a BANQUET. Or, it can refer to a sexual affair.

The word AFFAIR simply connotes something with several
courses that is not on the fly--it can refer to food or sex.

THE LIST
--------
KDSH is also translated as SEPARATION. But it does not refer
to any separation -- e.g. if you separated spoons and forks
you would not use the word KDSH. Rather it refers to SEPARATION
from GROSS PHYSICALITY. It is the type of UPPER CLASS BEHAVIOR
we expect at formal affairs where we ABSTAIN from the
lower physicality. The LISTS over the next 2 days will
illustrate this. In todays list KDSH refers to separation
from WOMEN, WINE and FORBIDDEN FOODS
VERSE TEXT OF VERSE KDSH means
Ex19-06 Separation from Women Sex-Separate*8
Nu06-05 Abstention from WINE by Nazarite Food-Separate*8
Dt14-02 Abstention from forbidden foods Food-Separate*8
