OVERVIEW:
========
In this module we explore Rashis that derive their
lesson from OTHER VERSES.
The basic technique of Rashi in these verses is to
>CONFIRM BIBLICAL CROSS REFERENCE<
REFERENCES
==========

EXAMPLE 3: Nu01-53a
=========
Nu01-53 says >And the Levites will watch the Temple so that
THERE WILL NOT BE ANGER ON THE JEWS<
Rashi >CROSS REFERENCES< Nu16 and Nu17 which describes the anger
of God when Korach, a non priest tried to serve in the temple.
Thus, in this verse the >CROSS REFERENCE< provides an >EXAMPLEa daughter who inherits<
Rashi explains >A daughter inherits if the father had no sons<
Although Rashi does not explicitly cite a verse he obviously
was referring to Nu27-08 >When a man has no son then his
daughters will inherit<
In this example the >CROSS REFERENCE< provides a >POSSIBLE
SITUATION< (no son) by which a daughter might inherit.
EXAMPLE 5: Lv14-13a
=========
Lv14-13 says that >the guilt offering was slaughtered where the
elevation offering was offered<
Similarly Lv07-02 says that >the guilt offering was slaughtered
where the elevation offering was offered<
Finally Lv01-11 states that >the elevation offering was
slaughtered in the NORTH<
In this example the >CROSS REFERENCE< provides >CLARIFICATION<
We now know that elevation offerings and guilt offerings were
slaughtered on the North side of the altar.
TECHNICAL COMMENT:
=================
Rashi also points out that >BOTH< Lv07-02 and Lv14-13
cross reference Lv01-11. But if Lv07-02 discussed guilt
offerings in general why was it necessary to reintroduce
the laws in Lv14-13. Rashi explains that the lepor guilt
offering, discussed in Lv14 was different in many respects
from the traditional guilt offerings discussed in Lv07. Hence,
it was necessary to emphasize which procedures (like slaughtering
in the north) remained the same.
