OTHER VERSES

The following table contains Rashis whose derivation comes
from other verses. In other words Rashi is not deriving from
internal grammatical nuances but rather external verses.

The simplest example is the verse that says that REUVEN SLEPT
WITH BILHAH. Rashi says he only ruffled some bedspreads (to
prevent his father from living with her). This Rashi certainly
appears strange.

But Rashi derives his interpretation from an explicit verse
"...you (Reuven) played with your fathers bedspreadS". Thus
Rashi learns that Reuven switched bedspreads from this verse

In the table below you can find the Rashi involved, where
the other verses are (FROM to TO verses) and a brief
explanation. The table is sorted alphabetically

As time goes on we will update this table so that complicated
examples are treated separately.

Rashi From Verse To Verse Brief Explanation
Dt03-09a Dt03-09 Dt04-48 By reviewing Dt03-09 and Dt04-48 we see that this city was given 4 names by 4 nations--apparently it was well liked(and hence every country gave it its own name). This shows the Greatness of God in conquering it for us.

Dt19-09a Dt19-08 Gn15-19 Israel came from the conquest of 6-7 lands, Ex03-08. But God promised 10 lands to Abraham in Gn15:19-21. Therefore when God promises to ---widen our land---(Dt19-08) i it refers to the other 3 lands not yet given
Dt24-15b Dt24-15b Dt15-09b Regarding an anguished worker the Bible says both ---He will Call to God--- & ---He will not Call to God--- It is therefore optional for an anguished worker to pray to God on an employer who defaults on payment

Ex12-25c Ex12-25 Ex06-08 Cross referencing where God promised to bring the Jews to Israel
Ex13-17d Ex13-18 Ex13-17 The reason we translate Ex13-18c as ---20% of the JEWS LEFT EGYPT--- vs ---THE JEWS LEFT EGYPT ARMED--- is because the PREVIOUS VERSE **Explicitly says** that the Jews were afraid of war! Hence we chose a non military interpretation
Ex13-18c Ex13-18 Ex13-17 The reason we translate Ex13-18c as ---20% of the JEWS LEFT EGYPT--- vs ---THE JEWS LEFT EGYPT ARMED--- is because the PREVIOUS VERSE **Explicitly says** that the Jews were afraid of war! Hence we chose a non military interpretation

Ex25-18c Ex25-31 Ex25-36 The Hebrew word MIKSHAH means SCULPTORED(from 1 piece); not SOLDERED(from many pieces). This is learned from the verses in Ex25 which explicitly say that the Candellabrah should be HAMMERED OUT **from** THE MENORAH (Sculptored not soldered)

Ex32-05b Ex32-05 Ex32-18 The reason we interpret Ex32-05 ---And Aaron Saw--- as ---Aaron saw Chur's death--- is because of the EXPLICIT STATEMENT in another verse ---...I hear a BRAWL in the camp (Ex32-18)---
Gn21-01c Gn21-01 Gn17-19 Cross reference of God promising that Sarah will give birth
Gn21-22a Gn21-22 Gn24-01 Rashi confirms the verse GOD IS WITH YOU(Abraham) with SEVERAL other verses: (a) Sarah giving birth when Abraham is old (Gn24-01), (b) Abraham's conquest of 5 kings Gn14), (c) Escape from Sedom of Abrahams nephew (Gn19).
Gn21-23b Gn21-23 Gn20-15 Avimelech said -- I TREATED YOU NICELY-- Rashi confirms this with Gn20-15, BEHOLD MY LAND IS BEFORE YOU. (By contrast other kings mistreated Abraham with banishment Gn12-10:20, or without helping him(Gn26-09:11) )
Gn24-07e Gn24-07 Gn17-19 Cross referencing where God promised Abraham that his son would inherit him

Gn27-42a Gn27-43 Gn27-42 The next verse says --Esauv thought IN HIS HEART he would kill Jacob---Hence this verse --Rivkah was Told about Esauvs desire to Kill Jacob-- is interpreted as ---Rivkah was PROPHETICALLY told ---
Gn34-01a Gn34-01 Gn34-01 Rashi does not say -Dinah was forward and HENCE she was raped-Rather Rashi says that -Dinah was forward & HENCE since other non jews would say it was her fault, therefore Shimon and Levi had an added incentive to destroy schem (cf Gn35-32)
Gn35-22a Gn35-22 Gn49-04 It explicitly says (1-49-4) ..you PLAYED with your father's bedS Hence we are forced to say that Reuven did NOT sleep with Bilhah but rather tried to discourage his father from moving in with her(by rearranging bedspreads)
