These 7 commandments span the spectrum of all commandments Hence we infer that doing ANY commandment leads to getting GOOD and HAVING GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE. This conclusion is based on the Rabbi Ishmael rule of Generalization from multiple verses. The logic is that eg if God tells you you get reward for something that required no effort or for something that you would do anyway then how much more so will you get reward if you do harder commandments. TODAYS UNIT =========== In todays unit we bring 3 examples of commandment we get reward for. We cite --the Biblical verse --the reward obtained --why this commandment is easy to do --How the GENERALIZATION to all commandment works REFERENCE: ========= This module comes from the following digests in the Rashi-is-Simple series http://www.RashiYomi.Com/h7n11.htm http://www.RashiYomi.Com/dt17-20b.htm #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# (C) Dr Hendel, 2001 *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#* EXAMPLE 1: Dt11-21a ========= The torah says >LEARN THE TORAH< & as a reward >GET MANY DAYS< Hence we can generalize as follows. If when doing a MENTAL commandment like learning I get many days how much more so what I physically do commandments EXAMPLE 2: Dt24-19d ========= The torah says >LEAVE SHEAVES IN THE FIELD THAT YOU FORGOT< (ie dont go back to them) and as a reward get >BLESSINGS<. Hence we can generalize as follows: If when doing a commandment which has no intention (since I didnt intend to forget) I nevertheless get reward, how much more so will I get reward if I do a commandment which I do intend to do.*1 EXAMPLE 3: Dt12-25b ========= The Torah says >DONT EAT BLOOD< and as a reward >IT IS GOOD WITH YOU<. Hence we can generalize as follows: If when doing a commandment to abstain from something loathesome (like blood) (and hence was easy to do since the natural tendency is to abstain),I get a reward, how much more so when I do commandments which require psychological effort on my part.*2 -----------------------FOOTNOTES-------------------------- *1 The actual Rashi is as follows Dt24-19d You never intended to forget sheaves and you are blessed. How much more so if you intend to do a commandment *2 The actual Rashi is as follows Dt12-25b If not eating Blood which is loathesome gives reward how much more so doing other commandments #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# (C) Dr Hendel, 2001 *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*
