SUCCINCT SUMMARY

Sometimes Rashi will make sweeping pattern inferences from
broad database inquiries. We call this the Rashi method
of DATABASES.

EXAMPLE: Gods name Shadai
-------------------------
Gods traditional Hebrew names in the Bible are Kayl, Hashem,
Elo-him, A-do-nai etc. The name Shadai is used very rarely.
It seems to be used when God shows immediate and great force

    We have to interpret this as

    The name Shadai only occurs by Patriarchs

    It cannot mean that

    Only name Shadai was used by Patriarchs

    since that is not true. That is by the Patriarchs we find
    both traditional names of God and Shadai while by say Moses
    we NEVER find the name of Shadai


    The other comment is that we see in the above list that
    God appeared to Abraham and Jacob BUT NOT TO ISAAC using
    the name of SHADAI.

    Rashi however explicitly says (Ex06-03a)

    I God appeared to THE PATRIARCHS (all of them) as Shadai
    -----------------------------------------------

    There are several ways to interpret this---for example
    God promised Isaac the blessings of Abraham which were
    introduced with Shadai even though God didnt use Shadai
    with Isaac.
