VERSE: Ex25-27a
RASHIS COVERED: Ex25-27a Ex25-27b Ex25-27c Ex25-27d
================== L can mean TO or FOR =========================
BACKGROUND
----------
Hebrew prepositions are frequently indicated by LETTERS. For
example, M means FROM, B means IN, L means TO. Closed analysis
shows that many of these letters have multiple meanings. For
example L can mean ABOUT, FROM, IN, WITH, ON, FOR or a personal
use.

THE TEXT
--------
Ex25-27 contains the prefix L (LAMED) 4 times.
THE RASHI
---------
In one of these phrases L is part of an idiom meaning OPPOSITE
while in the other 3 it means FOR. The same LETTER with
different meanings could easily cause confusion. Hence
Rashi clarifies the usages for us
THE LIST
--------
The list presents the 4 phrases of the verse with
the meaning of L in each case. The actual text Ex25-27 is
talking about
----------------------------------------------------
making RINGS on the table legs underneath the
table-top-foundation in order to hold (house) rods
that are used for carrying.

Here is the the verse

VERSE LETTER L means REST OF PHRASE
========== ============== ======================================
Ex25-27a OPPOSITE the table, will the rings be *1
Ex25-27b FOR houses*2
Ex25-27c FOR the poles*2
Ex25-27d FOR purposes of carrying the table*2
NOTES
-----
*1 The letter L (LAMED) is part of an idiom LeOOMath which
means OPPOSITE.
This simply means that there were 4 rings, one on each
leg which were used for carrying the table. The rings
were placed ON TOP of the legs UNDERNEATH (OPPOSITE)
the table top.
*2 The sentence would sound less clumsier without all these
nested clauses. It for example could have said
------------------------------------------------------
Opposite the table top will be the rings THAT house
the CARRYING POLES
------------------------------------------------------
Rashi does not explain why all the nested clauses are used
I dont know a reason nor does any commentator discuss it.
