VERSE: Ex30-12b

RASHIS COVERED: Ex30-12b Ex30-13e Ex30-16b Ex30-18d

==================== Ex30-12b ==========================

VERY BRIEF SUMMARY
------------------
One of Rashis 6 main techniques is to use
Cross references. These cross referenced
verses illumine the meaning of the original
verses. There are 5 techniques of cross
referencing.

EXAMPLE Ex30-12b
----------------
Ex30-12b states that the half-dollar tax atones: This is
illumined by 2S24-01:25 which states that King David and
all of Israel were punished for the census taken(Showing
that direct census is a sin*1)

EXAMPLE Ex30-13e
----------------
Ex30-13e speaks about the SHEKEL currency equalling
20 GAYRAH. This is illumined by 1S02-36 which shows
the GAYRAH was a unit of currency

Ex30-16b
--------
Ex30-16b states that the half-dollar tax was used
for the TEMPLE service. This is illumined by Ex38-26:28
which shows, more specifically, that this silver was
used for the silver sockets and curtain hooks.

Ex30-18d
--------
Ex30-18 orders that the Priestly washbin be placed
between the ALTAR and the TEMPLE. This is illumined by
Ex40-27:29 which shows that of the two altars--the
Golden altar was placed INSIDE the Temple while it was
the COPPER ALTAR that was placed OUTSIDE the Temple
before the door. Hence the WASHBIN was placed between
the Temple and the COPPER altar*2.

NOTES
-----
*1 The traditional explanation is that since God
sends blessings in uncounted things, therefore
if we count avoid Gods blessings.

*2 There are two points made by Rashi on this verse
The other point deals with the meaning of the
word INBETWEEN. Rashi interprets this word
broadly vs literally(Not exactly inbetween but
in the general horizontal line of inbetweeness).
We will have opportunity to discuss this in
   another posting

=================== LIST210a ===========================
We present a list of verses where
further details of the verse are presented
 from other verses.

The classical example is the Passover Hagaddah
example: The verse Dt26-05d, ONLY A FEW JEWS
WENT DOWN TO EGYPT, is illumined by Gn46-27
which states that 70 PEOPLE WENT DOWN TO EGYPT.

Thus the technique of OTHER VERSES teaches
 us that A FEW JEWS(Dt26-05d) means 70(Gn46-27)

=================== LIST250a ===========================
We present a list of verses where
the meaning of words in one verse are
illumined by the usage of these words
 in other verses.

The classical example is the word CALF
which occurs several times in the
 Torah(eg Gn15-09).

We know a CALF is a YOUNG OX/BULL
but we dont know HOW YOUNG. The details
are gives by Lv09-07d which shows that
CALFS are 1 year (And this derivation
 is accepted legally)

NOTES
-----
*1 Ex13-20 Jews journeyed from Succoth after Exodus
Ex12-27 Exodus: Jews go from Raamsayth to Succoth
Nu33-05 Exodus, Then Raamsayth, THen Succoth

The point is that Nu33-05 makes it clear that
   there were 3 places
   - Exodus FROM Egypt
   - TO Raamsayth
   - TO Succoth.

Ex13-20 only mentions 2 of the places
Ex12-27 makes it sound like they left EGYPT, ie
   they left RAAMSAYTH.

It is in fact common for places to have multiple
names. So Nu33-05 illumines that there were 3
   distinct places
