VERSE: Ex35-04a

RASHIS COVERED: Ex35-04a Ex35-14c

================== Ex35-04a =====================

VERY BRIEF SUMMARY
------------------
Rashi has 6 main methods of interpretation.
Some of these methods are INTERNAL--such as
word meanings and grammar.

By contrast other methods are external. Rashi
illumines a verses meaning using cross
references to other verses.

A particularly interesting example are
cross references involving the tabernacle

The Tabernacle construction is mentioned
in 3 places
- Ex25 thru Ex27 The order to make a Temple
- Ex28 - Ex29 Moses assignment of tasks
- Ex35 - Ex40 The carrying out of the tasks
Hence cross references from these 3
sources illumine each other. There are
many Rashis that fit into this paradigm.

NOTES
-----
*1 Ex38-07 illumines Ex25-07 with FURTHER DETAILS
The SHOHAM stones were used in the PRIESTLY clothes

*2 Ex27-20:21 (also see Lv24-01:04) where we obtain
the FURTHER DETAIL that the OLIVE OIL had to
be specially crushed for the Menorah--hence this
wasnt ordinary oil but required craftsmanship*10

----------------- LONGER FOOTNOTES --------------------------

*10 The Talmud Menacoth goes into details how olive
oil is made. There are a variety of stages
    - initial crushing of olives (Soaking out oil)
    - a beam crush of olives (to soak out extra oil)
    - pressing the remaining olives for extra oil

Note that beam crushes of olives will give
solid matter residue (The olives) while the
initial crushing of olives (and allowing the
oil to ooze out) will give CLEAR CRUSHED OIL

There are a variety of other details on these
matters but the above is the main thrust
