The Hebrew word GAM, means ALSO, and has 3 usages. They
are as follows

To explain the last example, Gn07-03 recall that Noach had
taken 7 KOSHER animals and 7 NON-KOSHER animals into the ark.
The next verse says Noach took 7 birds ALSO. The ALSO indicates
a SIMILAR RELATION: There were 7 KOSHER & NON-KOSHER birds

THE LIST

denotes a similar relationship: Just as Abraham obtained his
money as presents to get him to give over Sarah who was his
sister so too Lot received monetary gifts to get him to give

nations which subjugate us. With the word ALSO I say that God
both punishes the nation AND with 10 plagues AND with letting
the Jews out with wealth.

*3 Added Oct 24, 2001. Recall (Gn12-16) that Abraham received
   gifts because they thought Sarah was his sister. So when
   it says AND LOT ALSO HAD MONEY the implication is that Lot
   claimed he was Abrahams brother and Sarahs sister and they
   gave him money *10

*10 Note how Rashi in our current texts is NOT placed on the
    word ALSO but rather placed on the phrase: And also to Lot
    WHO WENT WITH ABRAHAM. This has led some Rashiists to
    suggest that it was the extra words that caused the Midrash.
    Our way of taking it is consistent with requirements of
    simplicity and other Rashi rules.

*11 Rashi on Gn13-08a interprets the verse BECAUSE WE ARE
    BROTHERS to mean WE LOOK ALIKE.

    According to this email group the 2nd explanation in Rashi
    is always the correct one. Thus Rashi rejects the rather
    plausible explanation that BECAUSE WE ARE BROTHERS means
    we look alike.

    The reason for this is NOT DICTIONARY BASED or GRAMMAR BASED
    Rather the reason is based on CONTEXT and OVERALL STRUCTURE
    -- Recall Abraham came into a city with a woman whom he
       claimed was his sister. Why did anyone believe him?
       It would be logical for him to travel with his wife?

    -- So Rashi noticed the words BECAUSE WE ARE BROTHERS and
       suggested that Abraham claimed that HE & LOT were brothers
       and Sarah was their sister.This 3 fold claim was plausible

    -- The claim is further supported by the verse which shows
       THAT LOT ALSO RECEIVED MONEY like Abraham -- thus they
       gave money to both brothers.
