*1 Rashi (Gn13-05a) seems to say that the BIblical phrase
AND LOT WHO TRAVELED WITH ABRAHAM HAD MONEY implies
that BECAUSE HE TRAVELED WITH ABRAHAM he had money. It
is as if Rashi learned this from the extra phrase.

But in reality Rashi learned this from the word ALSO which
implies that LOTS got his money the same way Abraham did

*2 How did Chazal know that Amrafel was the same person as
Nimrod? ANSWER: Because they were both Kings over the
   same land

VERSE: Gn13-13b

RASHIS COVERED: Gn13-13b Gn13-13c Gn13-13d

3 STAGES OF SIN

BACKGROUND
----------
Gn13-13 describes the evil city of Sedom and Gemarrah.
A variety of words are used to describe the evil

THE RASHI PRINCIPLE OF CLIMAX
-----------------------------
We have frequently explained the principle of CLIMAX. When
the Bible says something in 3 or 4 ways it is assumed to
be indicating a progression of stages to a CLIMAX.

REFERENCES
----------
Visit url http://www.RashiYomi.Com/example9.htm which presents
many examples of this fundamental principle.

THE LIST
--------
The list below shows the 3 words in the verse as well as
the 3 stages of sin they describe.
VERSE WORDSTAGE OF SINEXAMPLE & COMMENTS
EVILPhysicallyeg adultery, theft
SINNERSMonetarilyHave to support their HABIT
To God, AlotDenial of GodMoney is involved;must deny*1
COMMENTS

*1 The 3rd column indicates WHY there is this progression.1st it
is just a sin of temptation. Then one gets involved (money).
Once money is involved you have to rebel against God to keep
   your funding.*10

LONGER FOOTNOTES
*10 It is crucial to emphasize that the words in the the verse
-- EVIL, SIN, ALOT -- dont NECESSARILY mean PHYSICALLY,
    MONETARILY, DENIAL.

Rather, as I have explained many times, the principle of
Climax ASSUMES that God wants us reading a repetitive verse
in such a way as to illustrate CLIMAX. The justification
of the associations has nothing to do with dictionary
meaning or grammar. Rather the justification of the meaning
is our Belief that God wants the verse read this way.

We then correspond the verse to the known stages of
the domain we are talking about: In this case the domain
is sin and the progression we have mentioned is known
    and accepted.

RASHI RULE USED: EXAMPLE9

#*#*#*# (C) RashiYomi Inc., 2001, Dr. Hendel, President #*#*#*#*#

VERSE: Gn13-05a

RASHIS COVERED: Gn13-05a Gn13-08a

The word ALSO has 3 meanings

REFERENCE
---------
http://www.RashiYomi.Com/gam-9.htm

This reference contains a rather thorough list of examples of
the 3 meanings of Gam

BACKGROUND
----------
The Hebrew word GAM, means ALSO, and has 3 usages. They
are as follows

THE TEXT
--------
---------------------------------------------------------------
VERSE TEXT OF VERSE WITH WORD ALSO ALSO THEME
-------- -------------------------------------- --------------
Ex18-18b You ALSO (with your staff) will wither OTHER OBJECTS
Dt22-22b The adulterers(& foetus)will ALSO die DERIVED OBJECT
Gn07-03 Noach took 7 Birds ALSO(7 Kosher/tryf) SAME RELATION
---------------------------------------------------------------

THE RASHI
---------
To explain the last example, Gn07-03 recall that Noach had
taken 7 KOSHER animals and 7 NON-KOSHER animals into the ark.
The next verse says Noach took 7 birds ALSO. The ALSO indicates
a SIMILAR RELATION: There were 7 KOSHER & NON-KOSHER birds

THE LIST
--------
This list summarizes all examples of ALSO. We have added the
example of Gn13-05a: AND LOT ALSO HAD MONEY. The word ALSO
denotes a similar relationship: Just as Abraham obtained his
money as presents to get him to give over Sarah who was his
sister so too Lot received monetary gifts to get him to give
over Sarah (Gn12-16). *3

FOOTNOTES
---------
*1 So here without the word ALSO I would say that God punishes
nations which subjugate us. With the word ALSO I say that God
both punishes the nationAND with 10 plagues AND with letting
the Jewsout with wealth.
*2 AddedDec 28 2000
*3 AddedOct 24, 2001. Recall (Gn12-16) that Abraham received
giftsbecause they thought Sarah was hissister. So when
it says AND LOT ALSO HAD MONEY the implication is that Lot
claimed he was Abrahams brother and Sarahs sister and they
gave him money *10
----------------------- LONGER FOOTNOTES ----------------------
*10 Notehow Rashi in ourcurrent texts isNOT placed on the
wordALSO but ratherplaced on the phrase: And also to Lot
WHO WENT WITH ABRAHAM. This has led some Rashiists to
suggest that it was the extra words that caused the Midrash
Our way of taking itis consistent withrequirements of
simplicity and otherRashi rules.
*11 Rashion Gn13-08a interprets the verseBECAUSE WE ARE
BROTHERS to mean WE LOOK ALIKE.
According to this email group the 2nd explanation in Rashi
is always the correctone. Thus Rashi rejects the rather
plausible explanationthat BECAUSE WE ARE BROTHERS means
we look alike.
The reason for this is NOT DICTIONARY BASED or GRAMMAR BASE
Rather the reason isbased on CONTEXT and OVERALL STRUCTURE
-- Recall Abraham came into a city witha woman whom he
claimed was his sister. Why did anyone believe him?
Itwould be logical for him to travel with his wife?
-- SoRashi noticed the words BECAUSE WE ARE BROTHERS and
suggested that Abraham claimed thatHE & LOT were brothe
and Sarah was their sister. This 3 fold claim was plausib
-- The claim is further supported by the verse which shows
THAT LOT ALSO RECEIVED MONEY like Abraham -- thus they
gave money to bothbrothers.

RASHI RULE USED: SPECIAL WORDS

#*#*#*# (C) RashiYomi Inc., 2001, Dr. Hendel, President #*#*#*#*#

VERSE: Gn14-01b

GOYIM refers to a country like UNITED STATES

BACKGROUND
----------
Gn14-01 lists the names of 4 kings and their countries.

THE LIST
--------
From the alignment we learn that the phrase KING TIDAL of NATIONS
indicates that TIDAL was King over a place named nations

THE RASHI
---------
Rashi then derives the meaning of the name. NATIONS was a place
like the UNITED STATES or the UNITED ARAB REPUBLICS. It was
a federation of states
KINGNATION
AMRAFELShinar
ARYOCHElasar
KDARLAOMERAylam
TIDALNATIONS*1
COMMENTS

*1 The ALIGNMENT shows that the word NATIONS isnt a noun
referring to many nations but rather is a proper noun
NAMING a PLACE called NATIONS. Rashi conjectures the
obvious etymology --- NATIONS referred to a place like
the UNITED STATES or the UNITED ARAB REPUBLICS

RASHI RULE USED: DOUBLE PARSHAS

#*#*#*# (C) RashiYomi Inc., 2001, Dr. Hendel, President #*#*#*#*#

VERSE: Gn14-01a

AMRAFEL WAS NIMROD

BACKGROUND
----------
Gn14-01 mentions a King Amrafel of Shinar who fought with Abraham

THE TEXTS
---------
Rashi brings several other places where SHINAR is mentioned

THE RASHI
---------
3 verses mention SHINAR as the seat of Rebellion against God
Hence the 2 people mentioned there are either the same person
or King Descendants of one another. NIMROD and AMRAFEL are
consequently the same

THE LIST
--------
The LIST below presents the verses invovled mentioning SHINAR
VERSESPersonREIGNED OVER
Gn09-08:10NimrodReigned over Babel a state of Shinar
Gn14-01:15AmrafelInvovled in war against Abraham the beiever
Gn11-01:09Babel*1They built a city rebelling against God*1
COMMENTS

*1 Babel is the name of a PLACE not person. It was brought in
this list to show that Nimrod who reigned over Babel was
involved in a war against God (Because Gn11-01:09 describes
a war against God held in Babel)

RASHI RULE USED: DOUBLE PARSHAS

life(ruffled bedspreads); Bible condemns Reuven by
exaggeration; he is accused of incest which he didnt do

=================================================================
THE 3 RABBI ISHMAEL RULES: They govern style(broad vs literal)
REFERENCE:http://www.RashiYomi.com/example1.htm thru example9.htm
=================================================================

* EXAMPLE 1: Simple sentences are always GENERALIZED
            ---------------------------------------

Rabbi Ishmael: Dont STOP any ANIMAL from eating
			   while DOING ITS WORK

RABBI ISHMAEL: These laws apply to any SIMILAR Example
 * The law applies to partnerships, movables and monetary objects
 * The law does not apply to real-estate or slander

=================================================================
THE CLIMAX RULE: The Bible should be interpreted in such a manner

=================================================================
EXAMPLE 1: Dt19-11a If a man HATES, SPIES, CONFRONTS & KILLS
RASHI: Bible identifies 4 stages to murder(Capped)

==============================================================
THE FORMATTING PRINCIPLE: Bible had its own method to mimic
                          bold, bullets, footnotes, paragraphs
==============================================================

* BOLD: Bible REPEATS words to obtain BOLD emphasis effect
          http://www.RashiYomi.Com/doubl-14.htm
  --------------------------------------------------------------
EXAMPLE 1:(Ex12-09c) COOK COOK it in water (So COOKED is bold)
  INFERENCE: Prefered to COOK it in water;
But COOK It at all costs(Even if you dont have water)

* BULLETS: Bible indicates bullets by REPEATING KEYWORDS
  --------------------------------------------------------
 Who am I
 - THAT I should go to Pharaoh
 - THAT I should take the Jews out of Egypt (Ex03-11a)
 --------------------------------------------------------
RASHI: Repeated word THAT creates BULLET effect
 - Pharoh was a difficult king (Bullet one)
 - Jews were not yet ready for freedom (Bullet two)

* FOOTNOTES: The Bible indicates FOOTNOTES by ALMOST DUPLICATING
verses but making small minor changes
                http://www.RashiYomi.Com/align-58.htm
  ---------------------------------------------------------------
  EXAMPLE: Ex20-03a
  VERSE PHRASE #1 PHRASE #2 PHRASE #3
  ------- --------- --------- ------------------
Ex20-03 Dont POSSESS the gods of others
  Ex20-04 Dont MAKE idols

RASHI: So both POSSESSion & MAKING of idols are prohibited
