VERSE: Gn46-19a
The following comparison of verses shows that Rachel was
Jacob's preferred wife.
------------------------------------------------------------
Gn46-15 ..Leah who bore to Jacob
Gn46-19 ..Rachel, WIFE OF JACOB who were born to Jacob
Gn46-18 ..Zilpah.. she bore .. to Jacob
Gn46-25 ..Bilhah.. she bore .. to Jacob
*3 *1 *2
------------------------------------------------------------
*1 Only Rachel is called the WIFE of JACOB
*2 The "Job" of the other wives was to "bear children"(hence
the active tense "BORE TO"). But Jacob married Rachel out
of love---her bearing children were incidental to their
relationship (hence the passive tense)
*3 By the other wives it (a) lists children and then says (b)
these are the children of this and this wife. But by Rachel
it says (a) these are Rachels children Gn46-19 (b) it then
lists them and then concludes (c) these are Rachels children
Gn46-22. [I guess the point is that Rachel is shown more
attention stylistically]
