VERSE: Lv09-07d

RULE: If a GENERAL term occurs in several dozen verses
and in 1 or 2 verses is given a more SPECIFIC meaning then we
can assume that this general term always has this specific
meaning (This follows from Rabbi Ishmael's rules)

The following examples come from Rashi

EXAMPLES:
(1) The word "CALF" occurs several dozen times in the sacrifices.
In a few verses it says a "one year old calf". So we infer
that the term calf always means one year old.

(2) In several dozen verses the death penalty is expressed as
His blood is on him. In 1 or 2 of these verses it says "His
blood is on him--he is stoned". So we infer that the phrase
his blood is on him always indicates the death penalty.

(3) The term "CONFOUNDED" occurs in about a dozen verses
dealing with wars. In a few of them it says
CONFOUNDED BY A BIG NOISE from which we infer that CONFOUNDED
always means a war effort of confounding by a big noise

(4) The phrase "OX AND DONKEY" occur in a dozen or so verses.
But 2 Sabbath verses show that OX and DONKEY means any ANIMAL
("Don't do any work so that your OX AND DONKEY can rest" vs "Don't
do any work...you and your ANIMAL") So we infer that all laws that
apply to "OX AND DONKEY" apply to all ANIMALS.
