VERSE: Lv20-09b

RULE: Their are 18 crimes with a death penalty of
stoning. There are 3 methods by which it is known that
the death penalty is stoning.



EXAMPLES
--------
(1) The Bible explicitly says to STONE the individual
    -------------------------------------------------
    This covers 50% of the verses (eg Dt22-24, Lv24-14..)




(2) The Bible links the death penalty with a phrase that only
    occurs by verses with stoning
    ---------------------------------------------------------

(2a) Lv20-27 "...Stone him...HIS BLOOD IS ON HIM"
     RASHI: No other death penalty says "HIS BLOOD IS ON HIM"
     (eg You don't have a verse that says for example
     "BURN HIM...his blood is on him"--only by stoning do
     we have the phrase STONE HIM...HIS BLOOD IS ON HIM.

     Hence the 5 other verses (30%) that use the phrase
     HIS BLOOD IS ON HIM require Stoning *1

(2b) Dt13-11 says "...Stone him...KILL HIM"
     No other death penalty uses the phrase "KILL HIM"; hence
     the other verse with KILL HIM also refers to a death
     penalty




(3)Certain crimes are 'obviously similar' & deserve a death penalty
   ----------------------------------------------------------------

(3a) Bestiality and Witchcraft are mentioned in the same paragraph
     with only these 2 crimes. It is reasonable that they were
     placed together to indicate similarity. So they get the same
     death penalty (Ex22-17:18)


(3b) Incest with ones Fathers wife is obviously similar to incest
     with ones mother


(3c) The crime of seducing 1 individual to idolatry is considered
     similar to the crime of seducing a whole city to idolatry.
     So they get the same death penalty.
