VERSE: Gn45-27a

RULE: There are 2 ways to indicate the object an activity was
done to. For example the Hebrew verb HKH means to hit. Then
(a) HKHU means HIT HIM
(b) HKH OTHO means HIT **ONLY** HIM *1

EXAMPLES
--------
(1) Lv01-06 "Cut ONLY it to pieces"
TALMUD: You cut the animal but do not recut its pieces

(2) Lv02-06 "Tear ONLY it to pieces"
TALMUD:" You tear the matzoh to peaces but do not recut
        it pieces to pieces

(3) Lv01-17 "Tear ONLY it"
TALMUD: Only the bird offering is torn--not the other
        offerings *2

(4) Nu07-01a And on the day that Moses completed the temple
         And he annointed ONLY IT
And he sanctified ONLY IT its utensils, the altar & utensils
         and he annointed THEM
         and he sanctified THEM
                            *1

RASHI: From the constant emphasis ONLY IT ONLY IT we infer
that the consecration of the Temple was like a wedding day
Until the wedding the Jews could have "Spiritual affairs"
(sacrifices) any place they wanted (cf Lv17-05,Lv17-07.)
However once the TEMPLE was made they had a PERMANANT
relationship--one place where they could offer sacrifices
So it was a joyous occasion like a wedding day since they
had left the premarital jungle(Lv17-07)and now had a stable
        relationship.

(5) Gn45-27a "And Jacob saw the wagons that Joseph had sent
              to carry ONLY HIM"

RASHI: The phrase ONLY HIM indicates that there was a
a personal element in these wagons, unique to Jacob.

Joseph put "signs" in the wagons decorations that ONLY
Jacob and him could know about (eg the signs referred
to personal conversations that Jacob and Joseph had.

When Jacob saw these signs he knew that Joseph was
really alive and that the prophecies he had had were
        fulfilled.

Hence, the verse says "the wagons used to carry ONLY HIM"
since there was a personal element in the wagons.

NOTES
-----
*1 This distinction between HKHU and HKH OTHO was introduced by
the Malbim who shows that many of the Talmudic commentaries on
Leviticus emanate from this principle

*2 The application of this principle to Gn46-27a results in
the following interpretation

"And Jacob saw the wagons that his son Joseph sent
    to carry ONLY HIM"

The emphasis (ONLY JACOB could be carried by the wagon) is
interpreted by Rashi to mean that Joseph and Jacob had
personal secrets known only to them---the wagons had these
secret signs on them---when Jacob saw the wagons with the
secret signs Jacob knew that it was really Joseph who sent
them--hence the wagons were so to speak sent ONLY TO JACOB
